Infant/Toddler Teacher – children younger than 2 years of age

Academic and Experience Requirements

AA/AS/AAS degree in Early Childhood Education

OR

Child Development Associate Credential (CDA)

AND

1 year documented paid work experience with infant/toddlers and a study plan leading to an associate´s degree within 7 years.

OR

High School diploma or Equivalency Certificate (GED)

AND

1 year documented paid work experience with infant/toddlers and a study plan leading to an associate´s degree within 7 years.

Ongoing Training/Professional Development

  • Each full time employee must complete a minimum of 30 hours of training every 2 years.
  • 15 hours of such training must be received during the first 6 months of the program's first year of licensure or during the person's first 6 months of employment by the program.
  • Training must address the following topics:
    1. Principles of childhood development
    2. Nutrition and health needs of children
    3. Child day care program development
    4. Safety and security procedures, including communication between parents and staff
    5. Business-record maintenance and management
    6. Child abuse and maltreatment identification and prevention
    7. Statutes and regulations pertaining to child care
    8. Statutes and regulation pertaining to child abuse and maltreatment
    9. Shaken Baby Syndrome
    10. Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS)

Setting: Early Head Start - Infants Only

Academic and Experience Requirements

Setting: Early Head Start - Infants Only Academic and Experience Requirements

AA/AS/AAS degree in Early Childhood Education

OR

Child Development Associate Credential (CDA)

OR

High School diploma or Equivalency Certificate (GED)

AND

1 year documented paid work experience with infants

Head Start/Early Head Start teachers also:

  • Plan/deliver Head Start Services in center and home-based settings
  • Carry out record keeping requirements
  • Need experience in a human services setting, including working with low-income children and families
