Physical Therapists
Physical Therapists promote physical development in children with disabilities or at risk of progressing into a disability, including a developmental disability, through comprehensive physical therapy plans that:
- Screen, assess and evaluate young children to identify physical conditions like movement dysfunctions that interfere with their development
- Prevent, alleviate or compensate for movement dysfunctions and related problems
- Collaborate with IFSP/IEP team members to determine physical therapy goals that meet the unique needs of each child
- Offer interventions in natural environments that promote the acquisition of developmentally appropriate skills like:
- Mobility
- Correct position and posture
- Muscle Strength
- Sensor motor Performance
- Support families by educating in motor and self-care functions, assistive technology and other strategies that help children
- Suggest modifications to children’s environments that facilitate mobilization
- Advise on the purchase and use of specialized equipment
| Bachelor’s/Master’s Degree in Physical Therapy AND NYS Licensure in Physical Therapy AND A Minimum of 2 Years Experience Serving Children With, or at Risk of, Developmental Delay or Disability |
