Teachers of the Deaf and Hearing Impaired
Teachers of the Deaf and Hearing Impaired provide services to children with deafness or other hearing impairment such as:
- Assist other professionals in the screening, assessment and diagnose of hearing impairments
- Suggest alternative methods of communication and modifications to young children’s environment in order to facilitate the development of functional skills
- Develop IFSP/IEP goals and objectives with the team
- Provide an appropriate physical and psychological environment to establish and reinforce appropriate behaviors, attitudes and social skills
- Help children develop receptive and expressive language skills focused on the primary communication mode used
- Educate and support families in the use of assistive technology devises
- Help expose and introduce young children to additional sign language vocabulary
| Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education AND MS/MA in Special Education: Deaf and Hearing Impaired AND NYS Initial or Professional Teaching Certificate- Students with Disabilities AND A Minimum of 2 Years Experience Serving Infants and Toddlers With, or at Risk of, Developmental Delay or Disability |
