About the Children’s Museum of Manhattan
The Children’s Museum of Manhattan is dedicated to inspiring children and families to learn about themselves and our culturally diverse world through a unique environment of interactive exhibitions and programs. The School Programs Department reaches over 60,000 students annually through guided group visits and outreach programs.

Responsibilities:

The Children’s Museum of Manhattan is seeking Lead Early Childhood Educators for the Museum Preschool Program for children ages 14 months to 3 years and their grown-ups. These intimate classes celebrate and nurture individual learning styles by supporting children as they play and learn. Each class integrates art-making, singing, movement, dramatic play, story-time, and literacy. Lead Early Childhood Educators will be responsible for developing semester-long, arts-based curricula; creating family email newsletters that describe learning in the classroom and share strategies for use at home; ordering and maintaining materials for use in the program. 

Lead Early Childhood Educators may also have the opportunity to facilitate early childhood health and literacy residency programs throughout NYC, and lead professional development workshops for childcare providers and teachers. This position is part-time.

Qualifications:

Ideal Candidates:

  • Have experience working with children ages 14 months – 3 years and facilitating programs with parents and children
  • Are comfortable integrating multiple art forms into their teaching practice and be able to teach through music, visual art, dramatic play, student centered activities, and storytelling
  • Have a firm understanding of child development and developmentally appropriate learning activities
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with diverse audiences
  • Be enthusiastic, energetic, responsible, punctual, flexible, and reliable individuals who are able to work well with others in a group setting
  • Are adept at planning and implementing thematic units of study
  • Think creatively and have good organizational skills
  • Have experience working with parents in a classroom setting
  • Have experience managing assistants
  • Attend to children’s needs with a patient, kind, gentle, and caring attitude and manner
  • Maintain a safe, clean and organized classroom environment
  • Play an instrument, are visual artists, have a background in theatre, or dance
  • MA or MS.Ed. in museum education, early childhood education, arts education, or a related field or equivalent experience
  • Have at least 2 years’ experience as an educator in an early childhood learning environment or classroom
  • Available Monday – Friday, 8am – 1p
