Cardinal McCloskey Community Services (CMCS), a not for profit social service agency, has been making a difference in the lives of abused and neglected children, at risk families and adults with developmental disabilities, and children in our Head Start program with the hope of a brighter future with community based services.

The Director of Family Engagement is responsible for the overall management and provision of our family engagement work.  The Director of Family Engagement will develop best practices that promote family self-sufficiency and children’s healthy development.  The Director of Family Engagement is expected to adhere to the regulations and standards set forth by Head Start Performance Standards and/or ACS Early Learn, Universal Pre-Kindergarten, New York City Department of Health regulations, OSHA guidelines and regulations, and all other applicable federal, state, and local entities.  The Director of Family Engagement should have a strong interest in strengthening the capacity of staff to develop high quality family engagement practices that addresses the needs of low-income children and families.

Responsibilities:

Position Responsibilities:

-Help the Family Services staff acquire the understanding and skills needed to effectively engage families, build a family’s capacity to thrive, and promote children’s school readiness and healthy development.

-Implement family engagement strategies that will improve staff productivity and strengthen practices.

-Provide oversight of parent support groups, parent education, and training to ensure that they meet the interests and needs of families.

-Monitor the development, coordination, and successful implementation of program activities that will support parents as advocates and will promote the family’s well-being.

-Conduct regular site visits to support the quality of family engagement efforts through supervision and reflective practice, coaching, technical assistance, professional development and training, and monitoring; and ensure full compliance of all federal, state, and city regulations.

 -Develop a system to effectively track family engagement outcomes; devise comprehensive monitoring reports; share monitoring findings with the ECED administrative and management staff.

-Monitor the quality of family service staff’s contact notes, home visits, family partnership agreements, goal setting, family strengths/needs assessment, and family folders.

-Ensure that each site develops and implements a system to actively recruit, train, and utilize parent volunteers in the program.

-Work cooperatively with the ERSEA Director to monitor and analyze enrollment and recruitment data, and monitor recruitment efforts and follow up.

-Develop, implement, and maintain a dynamic Fatherhood Program.

-Engage in community outreach, partner with community organizations, and devise partnership agreements with stakeholders within the community.

-Attend all required agency administrative meetings and professional development trainings, community meetings, workshops, and conferences to support continuous growth and improvement.

-Participate in the agency’s One Page Plan (OPP) Performance Appraisal process.

-Complete reports required by our funding sources and the CMCS ECE Division.

 -Perform any other duties assigned by the ECED management team.  All schedules and responsibilities are subject to change at any time to meet the needs of the agency.

Qualifications:

Essential skills, experience, licensure, certification:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or related field.  Master’s degree preferred
  •  Knowledge of the Head Start Performance Standards and regulations
  • Experience with ACS/ACF/DOE/DOHMH
  • 2-5 years of experience in family services and early childhood
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to work cooperatively within a team, and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
