The YMCA of Greater New York reaches half a million New Yorkers through programs that focus on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.  The Vanderbilt YMCA is seeking a qualified individual who will provide programmatic and administrative support within Early Childhood and Youth Programs.  Specific support includes maintaining communication with all parents, staff, and others in the Nursery School and Youth Programs. The Assistant Director will independently manage all correspondences including tours, applications, projects, meeting arrangements, and projects related to the department.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage correspondence with parents & staff.
  • Serve professionally in the absence of the Director.
  • Oversee the Child Watch program: hiring, training and day-to-day interactions.
  • Monitor rooms and equipment for safety.
  • Purchase new equipment, supply orders and program materials.
  • Work closely with the Director of Early Childhood and Youth Programs during the participant application process.
  • Assist in preparation of budgets and keeps within the planned amount.
  • Ensure all supply orders, contracts, and promotional material are purchased, in a timely fashion.
  • Work with staff to ensure an emphasis on quality programming and services.
  • Assist with payroll, recruiting, budget maintenance, trainings, and staff evaluations.
  • Provide other Program Directors in the Youth and Family Department with assistance in establishing services priorities and team objectives, under the direction of the Executive Director.
  • Manage all aspects of communication with families within the department.
  • Work closely with parents and participants in the recruitment of policy volunteers for these groups.
  • Assist in branch program promotion efforts to ensure maximum attendance.
  • Actively participate in training sessions, designated meetings and special events.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Psychology, Sociology, or a related field.
  • New York State Teacher certification required.
  • Minimum of one year of experience working with early childhood aged youth; one year of administrative experience.
  • Experience supervising early childhood programs and staff.
  • Experience with program planning and implementation, community outreach, budget and fiscal management and creating / facilitating curriculum.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, and Power Point.
  • Certification and ability to train staff in multiple topics.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
