The Bureau of Child Care ensures that child care services in New York City operate in compliance with the New York City Health Code and New York State Social Service regulations, and are licensed or permitted as required by law. The bureau routinely monitors child care centers, home-based child care programs, after-school programs and summer camps to protect the health and safety of children while in the child care environment.
Supervise and evaluate field activities of Early Childhood Education Consultants (Level l); Assures that staff performs visits within established timeframes.
--Review database and conducts monitoring (follow-up) visits and accompanies staff to evaluate performance.
--Monitor staff maintenance of caseloads to assure Bureau goals and objectives are met.
--Conduct field visits of a special or difficult nature.
--Coordinate activities of all staff associated with child care center regulatory mandates.
--Respond to written and verbal inquiries received from the public and elected officials.
--Participate in community planning for the development and expansion of day care services to meet community needs.
--May represent the agency in professional conferences and community meetings on child care services.
