Position Description:  University Settlement has received funding to provide additional mental health services to children under the age of five, and their families. The Settlement has a long and distinguished tradition of developing innovative services to meet the needs of its constituents. Since most of our consumers and area residents represent various language and cultural groups, and frequently are hesitant to access mental health services we are committed to devising techniques that will facilitate their acceptance of these services. 

The role of the Social Worker is to promote positive social emotional development of young children through development of attachment, initiative and regulation by engaging and supporting families.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities:                     

  • Assess the mental health needs of children under the age of five
  • Provide individual, group and family therapy
  • Provide Child-Parent Psychotherapy, dyadic, group and family therapy
  • Maintain reports, administrative and clinical records in accordance with program standards
  • Develop and implement treatment plans
  • Participate in staff meetings, case conferences, training seminars and individual supervisory meetings
  • Facilitate intra /inter agency referrals
  • Advocate for families with other community based organizations and governmental agencies as indicated
  • Conduct home and classroom visits as indicated
  • Demonstrate ability to engage clients and sustain treatment
  • Consultations and collateral work with other child serving professionals
  • Conduct outreach activities with community based programs
  • Conduct pre-admission screening
  • Conduct trainings
  • Conduct consultation review meetings
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor

Qualifications:

Qualifications:

  • Must have MSW or Master’s degree in social work or creative arts.
  • LMSW or LCAT or permit and one to three years  clinical experience in a mental health setting with an emphasis in the treatment of young children
  • Knowledge of treatment strategies in the areas of child behavior management and family dynamics, trauma and abuse
  • Possess the ability to work with families in a supportive manner throughout the diagnostic and referral process.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Capacity to function as a member of an interdisciplinary team.      
  • Bilingual in Spanish or Chinese preferred.
