Hanson Place Child Development Center, Inc. (HPCDC) is looking for an interim Educational Director. The ideal candidate for this position has a Master's degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field, has experience working in an early childhood education setting, has strong leadership ability, and is committed to working with the staff and families of HPCDC.

Responsibilities:

Duties of the interim Educational Director include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Supervising teaching staff and ensuring that teacher performance adheres to the mission and values of HPCDC, as well as complies with regulations established by the New York City Board of Education and the New York City Department of Health/Bureau of Day Care
  • Conducting weekly/bi-weekly meetings with teacher teams in each classroom to discuss lesson plans, classroom arrangement, resource needs, and children's development progress
  • Performing classroom observations and provides feedback to teaching staff
  • Arranging professional development workshops for teaching staff
  • Managing and utilizing program data from formal assessments for decision making purposes
  • Facilitating preparation for and implementation of periodic Parent-Teacher conferences and student evaluations
  • Planning and arranging field trips for the toddler, preschool, and UPK classrooms
  • Ordering various materials for the program
  • Discussing findings from classroom observations with the Executive Director on a consistent basis
  • Attending UPK Education Director meetings
  • Working closely with UPK classroom teaching staff to ensure that Dept. of Ed. mandates are being followed

Qualifications:

  • Must have a Master's degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field; if applicant does not have a Master's degree, (s)he must have a Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field and be actively pursuing a Master's degree
  • Must have a minimum of two years' experience working in an early childhood education setting
  • Must have knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices. Knowledge of Early Childhood Special Education is a plus.
  • Must be familiar with Universal Pre-Kindergarten standards, including Common Core learning standards
  • Must be familiar with the Creative Curriculum and Teaching Strategies Gold, as well as the Devereux Center for Resilient Children (DCRC) Assessment Tools
  • Must possess strong leadership and supervisory skills
  • Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrate ability to interact well with both children and adults
  • Must be able to read and write English well
  • Must possess exceptional organizational skills
  • Must be computer literate
  • Must be in good physical and emotional health
  • Must complete screenings from the NYC Department of Investigation and the NYS Central Registry
  • Must have had Child Abuse and Maltreatment training within the last two years or complete online training, if hired
