Bedford Stuyvesant Early Childhood Development Center, Inc. (“BSECDC”) is non-profit organization that uses a holistic approach to fulfill its mission of providing free, high quality, comprehensive educational and social services, including, but not limited to, nutritional, physical, emotional, psychological, and social, to low income preschool children, ages 3 – 5 years old, their families and the underserved Brooklyn communities where we are located. Our goal is to provide our preschool children and their families with a love of lifelong learning and with the multi-disciplinarian foundation needed to succeed in school and beyond. We provide family development services from a holistic perspective; assessing from a strength-based approach the unique needs of the whole child and the whole family in the context of the community.
We are currently seeking a dynamic Education Manager to join our team. This individual reports directly to the Program Executive Director and will be responsible for the supervision of the program educational services. She/he implements all laws and regulations cited in the Head start Performance Standards, the Head Start Act, the NYC Department of Health and NYC Department of Education.
Responsibilities:
Job Responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Oversees program curriculum implementation.
- Oversees all educational services in the center.
- Able to conduct reflective supervisory sessions with teachers.
- Able to engage parents and guardians in the education of their children.
- Able to provide coaching sessions to teaching staff.
- Develop workshops and educational opportunities for teaching staff for continuous improvement in teaching and learning.
- Monitors daily classrooms and outdoors play to observe interactions between teachers and children, to assess learning environment and daily schedule implementation.
- Gathers data on periodic child assessment for planning and program development purposes.
- Administers classroom assessments: ECERS and CLASS for each classroom.
- Gathers data for child outcome.
- Collaborate with FCE Director to plan School Readiness activities.
- Participates actively in management meeting to address program goals and School Readiness goals.
- Able to work collaboratively and professionally with other service area managers.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Masters in Early Childhood Education with State Certification with two-year minimum supervisory experience.
- At least two-year experience in the classroom as teacher of a group of preschoolers.
- Able to assess teacher/child interaction using CLASS tool; able to assess teachers’ disposition toward children.
- Able to assess classroom environment using observation and formal ECERS tool.
- Excellent verbal, reading and writing skills, and culturally competent.
- Able to communicate effectively with parents, staff and colleagues.
- Able to establish positive and fair relationships with entire teaching staff.
- Able to interpret and analyze screenings and assessments.
Physical Requirements:
- Must maintain on files an updated medical report with complete immunizations.
- Medical report must ascertain that individual is physically fit to work with young children and participates fully in any physical activities required by the program curricula and the position.
