Bedford Stuyvesant Early Childhood Development Center, Inc. (“BSECDC”) is a non-profit organization that uses a holistic approach to fulfill its mission of providing free, high quality, comprehensive educational and social services, including, but not limited to, nutritional, physical, emotional, psychological, and social, to low income preschool children, ages 3 – 5 years old, their families and the underserved Brooklyn communities where we are located. Our goal is to provide our preschool children and their families with a love of lifelong learning and with the multi-disciplinarian foundation needed to succeed in school and beyond. We provide family development services from a holistic perspective; assessing from a strength-based approach the unique needs of the whole child and the whole family in the context of the community.

We are currently seeking energetic, creative, dynamic and thoughtful Teachers to join our team.  Teachers report directly to the Education Director. She/he is responsible for the implementation of the program curriculum and overall classroom management.  She/he is responsible for the health and safety of all children and more specifically children in her/his classroom. 

Responsibilities:

Job Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Implements fully all applicable laws and regulations cited in the Head Start Performance Standards, the Head Start Act, IDEA, IFSP, FERPA, ACYFIM, the NYC Department of Health and Mental Health Licensing Code, Article 47 NAEYC.
  • Responsible for providing day to day early education care to the children in the program using developmentally appropriate curriculum and assessment.
  • Ensures implementation of the program written curriculum plan.
  • Able to conduct child assessments and screening.
  • Able to interpret data for individualized and planning purposes.
  • Plans and communicates effectively with all classroom staff, education staff, families, volunteers and interns about weekly lessons, classroom activities and other pertinent information regarding children.
  • Maintains record keeping and reporting system to ensure accurate information, with timely completion and follow-up.
  • Conducts home visits for center children in accordance with Head Start performance standards.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education with NY State Certification or evidence of work toward NYS Certification.
  • Bachelor Degree with a study plan toward degree in Early Childhood Education. Two year-experience working with a group of preschoolers.
  • At least 1 year of experience working with children ages 3 – 5.
  • Must display professionalism in interpersonal interactions with colleagues and families at all times.
  • Must be flexible in receiving assignments or adapting to changes in the program.
  • Must have strong writing and verbal skills.
  • Bilingual is a plus (Spanish, French, Bengali)

Physical Requirements:

Must have the physical ability to run, lift up children, bend to child’s eye level to communicate, and participate in active outdoors play when necessary.
