Description:

Kids' B.A.S.E. & The Little School (“KBLS”) is an accredited, licensed not-for-profit private school

located in the affluent community of Scarsdale, a suburb of New York City in Westchester County.

KBLS is a highly regarded preschool for 2, 3 and 4 year olds and also offers before and after-school

enrichment programs for elementary-school aged children. Over the past 14 years, over 4,000

children have been students at KBLS. KBLS has grown from a single classroom to a multi-

dimensional institution providing a variety of programs throughout the year for children between

the ages of 2 and 12 years old. Accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young

Children, KBLS is chartered by the NYS Board of Regents and licensed by the NYS Office of Children

and Family Services. KBLS is committed to providing the highest quality of education, social and

enrichment experiences in a safe, nurturing environment.

Founded in 1982, Kids’ B.A.S.E. is recognized as a model of before and after school programs

serving all Scarsdale elementary schools. The Little School was added to serve three and four-year-

olds in 1991 and two year olds were added in 2015. The joint entity was consolidated as an

educational corporation in 1994. The Little School and its enrichment programs are the entity’s

primary revenue source.

The Little School encourages investigation, collaboration, and socialization in eight bright and

spacious classrooms, a large gym, a library, two playgrounds, and access to the Scarsdale Pool. The

philosophy of The Little School is to establish an environment where self-confidence and self-

expression, responsibility, decision-making and respect for others are encouraged. The warm,

sensory-rich environment offers familiar surroundings for the children. A broad early childhood

curriculum, based on the Creative Curriculum, fosters early childhood social, emotional, and

academic growth through developmentally appropriate experiences and aims to prepare each

child for the social, emotional, and academic demands of kindergarten in the Scarsdale school

district.

The Little School preschool offers a partial day program for 2 year olds, partial or full day programs

for 3 year olds, a full day program for 4 year olds, as well as before, after-school and vacation day

options during the academic school year. Each classroom is staffed with a head teacher and two

assistant teachers and offers low-student/teacher ratios.

In addition to the pre-school academic year, The Little School offers a summer enrichment camp

open to all village pre-K aged children. The camp program offers a full suite of fun learning

experiences, daily swim instruction at the Scarsdale pool complex and extended hours of

operation. An engaging agenda gives children a chance to expand their talents & interests, build

self-confidence and create lasting friendships.

Kids’ B.A.S.E., located in the spacious lower level of the building, offers a before (7:00 – 8:30 a.m.) and

after school (3:15 – 6:30 p.m.) program available to all students in Scarsdale elementary schools and has

been a valuable service for working parents in the community. Various enrichment options such as Chess

or Sports are offered as part of the Kids’ B.A.S.E. after-school program. Kids’ B.A.S.E. also offers vacation

day programs (e.g., spring break or Veteran’s Day), half-day programs and programs in the summer. Bus
