SALARY:  $65,000 - $73,000

FULL-TIME

The YMCA of Greater New York reaches half a million New Yorkers through programs that focus on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.  The Vanderbilt YMCA is seeking a qualified individual who will provide leadership to Early Childhood, Y After School Academy, Camp and Family programs.  Responsibilities include program development and management, staff and volunteer supervision, budget preparation and management, government contract development and management, NYS and City Health Code compliance, and community outreach.   

Responsibilities:

  • Recruit, hire, develop, train and supervise staff and volunteers.
  • Create, recommend and implement a comprehensive youth and family plan, which considers space utilization, equipment needs, budget requirements, safety and emergency procedures, YMCA values and quality standards.
  • Successfully manage all programmatic applications and AS400 database, to ensure that all payments, applications and inquiries are completed on a timely basis.
  • Research community needs and recommend programs to address needs.
  • Implement YMCA core curriculum into all necessary programs.
  • Monitor rooms and equipment for safety, and purchase new equipment and program materials.
  • Provide support and assistance to other departments, when needed.
  • Develop and monitor program budget to meet fiscal objectives.
  • Develop new programs/grow current programming to meet and exceed programmatic budgets.
  • Prepare and monitor staff and volunteer schedules, and prepare, review and approval payroll.
  • Manage all aspects of communication with families within the department.
  • Work closely with parents and participants in the recruitment of policy volunteers for these groups.
  • Evaluate and document staff performance, informally and formally, during the program year.
  • Promote all programs to ensure maximum attendance.
  • Work with Communications department to ensure signage and promotion for all department programs/activities are generated in a timely manner.
  • Plan and create new and innovative programs that meet the needs of the community in keeping with the Branch’s priority objectives, YMCA core programs and strategic plan.
  • Act as liaison and specialist to local government and community groups.
  • Actively participate in training sessions, designated meetings and special events.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Services, Education or Social Work, or Master’s in Early Childhood or Elementary Education.
  • Minimum of two years of experience supervising Early Childhood programs; two years of classroom teaching experience, and two years of staff management experience.
  • Experience in writing and facilitating curriculum, program planning and implementation, community outreach, and budget and fiscal management.
  • Licensed NYS Teacher preferred.
  • Knowledge of conflict resolution, group work and related topics; grant and proposal writing, CampMinder and AS400 database.
  • Certification and ability to train staff in multiple topics.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to build relationships with others.
