Founded in 1996 as a non-profit, community-based organization, Shuang Wen Academy Network (SWAN), proposed to the New York City Department of Education (formerly Board of Education) the Shuang Wen School, which was later established in 1998 as a New York City public school. The goal of SWAN has been to conduct the After-School and Summer Programs and support the Shuang Wen School (PS 184M), as well as serve as a bridge between the School and the community.  SWAN’s long term vision is to prepare students in both English and Mandarin, American and Chinese cultures, in order that they may participate fully in an increasingly relevant global environment.

The goal of SWAN is to conduct Afterschool and Summer Programs by providing an enrichment experience where we deliver a strong balance of Chinese language and cultural learning.

Responsibilities:

The Preschool Chinese Teacher Assistant reports directly to the Academic Coordinator, he or she will be responsible to assist his/her assigned teacher with responsibilities in the followings:

  • Assist teacher and provide classroom materials for students to explore and learn
  • Understand the basic principles in guiding behavior to promote a positive classroom environment
  • Lead and encourage participation of classroom activities
  • Design and maintain various bulletin boards to display students’ artwork and monthly activities
  • Keep classroom neat, clean and organized
  • Effectively communicate program announcement to them
  • Additional administrative tasks as needed by teacher or program coordinator

Qualifications:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Current Bachelor degree in Early Childhood Education or related major required
  • High energy, engaging and the ability to multi-task
  • Detail oriented, self-starter and the ability to think outside the box
  • Preferred English/Chinese bilingual skills and bicultural capabilities
