The Development Manager oversees the strategic and day-to-day fundraising efforts for all of CMA’s programs and special projects. The Development Manager is a full-time employee responsible for identifying, soliciting, securing and stewarding support from individual, foundation, corporate, and government funders. Reporting to the Executive Director and the Deputy Director, and working in collaboration with the Board of Directors, he/she will design and execute diverse strategies for renewing and increasing contributed support, identify new funding sources, and assist with cultivating relationships with current and prospective donors. He/she is responsible for overseeing two major fundraising events per year, an art auction in the fall primarily for adults and a spring benefit held at CMA for families, as well as smaller initiatives throughout the year. The Development Manager supervises (2) Development Associates and a part-time, as needed, Grant Writer, to ensure each is meeting his or her goals.

Responsibilities:

Work closely with the Executive Director and the Deputy Director to develop and implement fundraising strategies to increase support from institutional funders on the local, state, and national levels

  •  Research and prepare summary reports on prospective foundation, corporate and government funders
  •  Prepare and submit timely grant proposals and budgets, donor acknowledgments, reports, and other communications and documents
  •  Cultivate and steward relationships with institutional funders and government officials
  •  Work closely with the Museum’s program and finance staff to 1) develop grant proposals and budgets, 2) collect and track information required for reports and proposals, and 3) ensure compliance with grant requirements
  •  Research, cultivate and submit proposals for corporate sponsorship. In partnership with the Executive Director and the Development Associates, grow corporate relationships.
  •  Expand CMA’s corporate membership program
  •  Maintain and adapt the corporate deck as appropriate for sponsorship requests.
  •  Work with Development Associates to develop and implement an annual individual fundraising plan for the operating budget
  •  Work with the Executive Director and Curator to arrange special events for the Director’s Circle, a small group of high-level donors.
  •  Develop and implement annual appeal strategy
  •  Work with Development Associates to oversee strategy and execution of annual special events, including building host committees, soliciting     in-kind donations, coordinating vendors and contracts, overseeing invitation design and distribution, managing income intake gift processing, and soliciting corporate sponsorships
  •  Provide high-level support to board members and special event committees
  •  Work closely with other members of the Museum’s administrative staff, including marketing, communications, and visitor services personnel, to ensure proper donor recognition and provision of corporate membership benefits
  •  Maintain a grants calendar listing grant proposal and reporting deadlines, and enter and update information related to institutional support in the Museum’s fundraising database, eTapestry
  •  Maintain and update required information on the federal, state and New York City grantee registration systems

Qualifications:

  •     A minimum of 4 years experience in New York City-based institutional giving
  •  A proven track record of obtaining institutional support, preferably with an arts organization
  •  A proven track record organizing and implementing fundraising events
  •  Exceptional writing skills and meticulous attention to detail
  •  Strong verbal and interpersonal skills
  •  Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and handle multiple projects
  •  Proficiency in Microsoft Office required
  •  Knowledge if fundraising database
  •  Bachelor’s degree required. Masters degree preferred

This is a full time exempt position. Salary in the low to mid-50s, based on prior experience. CMA offers a highly competitive benefits package.
