About Hsuan-Mei

Hsuan-Mei Chien teaches two half day Chinese bilingual special education preschool classes at YAI/New York League for Early Learning Clearview School. She began at YAI/NYL Clearview School as a volunteer and then worked as a teacher assistant in 2000. She became a NYS certified Special Education teacher with bilingual extension certificates in Mandarin and Cantonese in 2003. She will soon begin her 10th year working at YAI/NYL Clearview School which she values as both a supportive working environment and as a warm family.

Hsuan-Mei is originally from Taiwan. She received her Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Special Education at National Taipei Teachers College and worked as a special education teacher for three years in Taiwan. She came to NYC in 1999 to pursue her graduate study and earned the Graduate Honors award when she completed her Master’s Degree in Special Education at Brooklyn College of CUNY in 2002. She completed her bilingual extension courses at St. John.s University in 2003.

She passionately strives to assist the families in a culturally diverse community to find the best services for their children with special needs. Hsuan-Mei believes she can empower families to recognize their child’s strengths and believe in their potential.
