About Patrick

Patrick Eckelmann has been teaching at The Early Childhood Center at Brooklyn College for eight years. He is currently the Lead Teacher of The Universal Pre-Kindergarten Program. With a B.A. in Early Childhood Education from Brooklyn College, Patrick is anticipating the start of his graduate studies this coming fall semester.

While teaching at the ECC, Patrick has written two children's books based on his students authentic learning experiences. His first book, "Alphabet Walk" illustrates the natural and artificial shapes of letters found throughout the community. The second book, "Playing a Pattern with Patrick" illustrates his students' collaborative work with Patrick McKern, a teaching artist from Lincoln Center Institute. Patrick has also captured the ongoing work of his students and produced a DVD series of the many classroom projects that have evolved over the years. The series illustrates how children learn through inquiry and natural experiences.
