Title:                     Education/Site Director

Reports to:             Deputy Director/Assistant Executive Director

FLSA:                    EXEMPT

Position Type:      Full-Time

Work Schedule:      Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.        

Salary Range:         $66,000- $68,000/annum

La Peninsula is a community-based, multi-site Head Start organization located in the South Bronx. Our mission is to provide quality, comprehensive services to children and families, to help them achieve a greater degree of social competence in dealing with their present environment and their later responsibilities in school and life.

Job Summary

The Education/Site Director is responsible for the day to day operation of the center. S/he oversees both the facility and education component and works on a collaborative managerial team to ensure their site is aligned with the agency’s overall mission.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the site complies with all licensing requirements. 
  • Manage facility to ensure the health and safety of the school community.  
  • Maintain and enforce quality standards of Early Childhood Education designed to meet the educational, emotional, physical, and social needs of all children. 
  • Supervise all staff and volunteers assigned to their site. 
  • Develop and support the professional development needs of their staff. 
  • In collaboration with the family service department, participate in the recruitment and maintenance of enrollment at their site, including devising strategies to meet 100% enrollment throughout the year. 
  • Collaborate with the Delegate Agency Policy Committee (DAPC) to recruit and interview applicants for open positions at the childcare center. 
  • Encourage and support the parent’s role as the primary educator of their children and engage in parent programming. 
  • Maintain accurate and updated records on children and staff in a well-secured storage area.
  • Implement and enforce the agency’s established procedures
  • Create and maintain a collaborative and motivating environment both on and off-site for staff and families. 

Qualifications and Skills

  • M.S. Degree from an accredited college in Early Childhood Education
  • NYS State Certification (Birth to 2nd Grade)
  • Minimum of 3 years of strength-based supervisory experience
  • Minimum of five years’ experience as a Lead Teacher working with children aged 3-5 years old
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of Administration, Training, and Supervision
  • Knowledge of DOH Article 47      
  • Knowledge of Head Start policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of NYC DOE Early Childhood programs
