I have an opening for a Bilingual (English/Spanish Speaking) Early Childhood Mental Health Consultant to work across 3 Head start sites . Our Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation program works with early education program, teachers and families to respond to the social-emotional, behavioral and mental health needs of young children. Early assessment, through classroom observations, standardized tools and reflective meetings, facilitates the implementation of strategies that aim to improve social-emotional development. Strengthening the collaboration between parents and childcare providers ensures the best results for children in both the home and school environments. Increasing leadership engagement at early childhood centers and addressing barriers to implementation of strategies help to build high quality learning environments that promote school success for all children.

Additionally, our consultant also has an opportunity to provide clinical treatment to a small case load of students who need an intervention beyond(located in Queens and Manhattan) the consultation efforts. 

An advance knowledge of attachment, social emotional development and understanding early childhood mental health is required and understanding of reflective practice. Ideally, the consultant should have advanced expericece and knowledge working with toddlers and preschoolers, teachers, staff and families.
an advanced degree in art therapy, mental health counseling or social work is required. NYS License in discipline or license eligible.

Responsibilities:


KEY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS • Develop and maintain positive working partnerships with staff and teachers in early child care setting. • Assess and develop consultation plans with child care sites. • Conduct trainings for child care staff on early childhood mental health and wellness including the signs and symptoms of trauma. • Consult with teachers and staff by providing mental health consultation regarding children in need. • Consult with parents as needed and refer children who need intervention beyond on-site consultation to mental health clinics with staff trained in Child-Parent Psychotherapy, or other community programs. • Screen parents and young children in child care settings to identify trauma and possible depression or mental health conditions. • Complete timely documentation and maintain required statistics/data • Ensure excellent client care in line with State and Agency mandates is uniformly provided. • Make referrals, as needed. • Conduct intake assessments in the clinic. • Provide treatment to a small number of children and their families. • Comply with any other grant deliverables. • Attend required training. • Travel to multiple locations and sites within the assigned zone. • Participate in Early Childhood team activities, working collaboratively with Family Peer Advocates and Clinicians. • Other duties, as assigned

Qualifications:

Appropriate candidate must have knowledge of early childhood social emotional development, experience in providing treatment to young children and/or experience working with young children in an educational setting. 
advanced degree in mental health counseling, art therapy or social work. License and NPI number.
