Description:

Provides direct services to clients, administers the nutrition component of the WIC Program and performs some receptionist and clerical duties. Assists the WIC Director in the coordination of outreach clinics and the WICSIS system.

Responsibilities:

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Provides direct service to participants. Provides participant-centered nutrition education at each visit. Provides appropriate nutrition education information to meet the individual needs of each WIC participant. Selects all WIC food packages correctly.
  2. Consults with local doctors and health department staff about infant formula needs and maintains and develops linkages between the WIC Program and providers of health care and other community services. Promotes WIC Program to staff at other agencies as Public Health Detailer.
  3. Provides instructions to participants on use of Farmers’ Market checks and promotes use of fresh fruits and vegetables.
  4. Monitors nutrition assistants in certification tasks and provision of nutrition education and identifies clearly their responsibilities and limitations.
  5. Develops pertinent nutrition education materials as needed.
  6. Develops a schedule for training nutrition assistants and maintains documentation of training updates.
  7. Works as a team to complete annual LACASA in accordance with WIC guidelines. Tasks include: completing chart review, observation of all WIC staff in certification duties and determining agency goals each year.
  8. Attends all mandatory WIC training and all agency training as required.
  9. Communicates with WIC Help Desk as needed.
  10.  Packs and unpacks van at outreach sites according to monthly schedule.
  11.  Drives WIC van to outreach sites, following protocols for safety checks and fueling when necessary.
  12.  Attends conferences to continue professional development, as time and budget allow.
  13.  Refers all WIC participants to other local agencies for assistance with food, health care, smoking cessation information and other needs.
  14.  Participates in community events to promote the WIC program within Chenango County.
  15.  Maintains confidentiality of information regarding all participants in compliance with the agency policy, NYS laws and specifications noted in memoranda of agreement with other agencies.
  16.  Assists Director and other staff in ordering and inventory of Nutrition Education Materials.
  17.  Enters all data into WICSIS computer program accurately. Documents information correctly in local WIC records.
  18.  Assists with training of new staff.
  19.  Responsible for pre-setting clinics, checking out/in of portable server, the proper packing, set-up and security of WICSIS equipment at outreach sites.
  20.  Assists the Director with the coordination of outreach clinics, including staffing and scheduling.
  21.  Provides clerical assistance as needed, including (but not limited to) obtaining anthropometric measurements, hemoglobin and all certification duties.
  22.  Completes monthly quality control report on accuracy of WIC charts.
  23.  Determines High Risk status of participants. Communicates with Director (CPA+) information on all HR participants when she is not in clinics.
  24.  Conducts facilitated group education when required.
  25.  Assists in orienting Morrisville College Human Service and Nutrition interns to the WIC Program.
  26.  Keeps an up to date log of all community events and trainings attended by staff.
  27.  Fills in for agency Receptionist for her lunch hour when necessary.
  28.  Performs other job-related duties as necessary or assigned by Director.

Qualifications:

Preferred: Registered Dietitian (RD)

OR any of the following:                   

            Bachelors, Masters or PhD in Nutrition

  1. Experience in WIC Program is helpful.
  2. Valid NYS Driver’s License.
  3. Ability to lift 30 pounds.
  4. Ability to be contacted.
