EHS programs are designed to nurture healthy attachments between parent and child (and child and caregiver). Services encompass the full range of a family's needs from pregnancy through a child's third birthday. Full time, year round program 

Center-Based Teachers Competencies –  

Teachers must demonstrate competency to provide effective & nurturing teacher-child interactions, plan/implement learning experiences that ensure effective curriculum implementation & use of assessment, and promote children’s progress across the standards described in the Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework: Ages Birth to Five and NYS Office of Children & Family Services (OCFS) early learning & development standards, including for children with disabilities and dual language learners, as appropriate. 

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities: The Teacher will: 

  1. Provide a safe, healthy learning environment that is welcoming to parents and supports and respects gender, culture, language, ethnicity and family composition. 

  1. Provide competent supervision taking into account the child’s age emotional, physical, and cognitive development, utilizing the primary caregiving (PITC) model. 

  1. Provide an environment that supports the emerging skills of infants and toddlers in all aspects of their learning, utilizing the High Scope Infant Toddler curriculum model    

  1. Plan for routines and transitions so that they occur in a timely, predictable, and unrushed manner according to each child’s needs. Provide a balanced program of child-initiated and adult-directed activities, including at least 45 minutes of free choice time and 30 minutes of outdoor time daily. Outdoor time dictated by Center Director/EDS when weather is questionable   

  1. With parent/guardian, identify strengths and emergent skills to develop child's individual plan.   

  1. Conduct daily classroom planning sessions to in conjunction with High Scope Infant/ Toddler curriculum guidance and expectations. Weekly general classroom plans must be posted in classroom on parent board. Online COR lesson planner may be used for dynamic daily plans.    

  1. Ensure all procedures of the component plan are followed including: completion of initial and ongoing home visits, developmental screenings, COR assessments, parent conferences, case conferences, individual plans, and updating child’s main file (binder) with all education related forms ( EHS Infant/Toddler intake form, home visit form, Infant Feeding Intake forms 

  1. Integrate the educational aspects of the program into other Early Head Start service areas. 

  1. Attend all staff meetings, in-services and training.  Attendance at parent meetings is required only if parents request teachers presence. 

  1. Participate in annual updating of the Education Services Plan. 

  1. Ensure all classroom materials and supplies are kept clean and in good repair; submit yearly inventory as requested. 

Qualifications:

Qualifications: 

  1. Preferably Bachelors, or  Associates degree in Early Childhood Education, Infant/Toddler CDA permitted

  1. Two years' experience working with infants and toddlers  

  1. Excellent oral, written and communication skills.  Ability to use online assessment, updating computer database, email and virtual learning platforms required

  2. Ability to support the role of the parent as primary educator of the child 

  3. Ability to relate to and work with staff and parents as a team. 

  4. Valid New York State driver’s license and reliable transportation. 5

  5. Ability to lift 50 pounds and agility required to move at children’s level including bending, squatting, and kneeling. 

  6. Must be able to show proof of COVID 19 vaccination, in compliance with HSPS
